eNews Alert: Breaking news for the land conservation community

Alliance Outreach to Farmers and Ranchers Featured

The Land Trust Alliance’s Farmers and Ranchers Outreach Campaign will be featured this weekend on rural satellite television channel RFD-TV’s show “This Week in AgriBusiness.” The show, popular with America’s farmers and ranchers, will broadcast the Alliance feature story on Saturday, August 25, Sunday, August 26, and Monday, August 27. More than 30 million US homes have access to RFD-TV’s agricultural programming, so we wanted to alert you that you may see some pickup in your inquiries from landowners.

The TV story is about land conservation and the expiring tax incentives, and it features interviews with Lynne Sherrod, Alliance Western Policy Manager who is also a rancher in Collbran, Colorado; Greg Twedt, a farmer in Marshalltown, Iowa; and Jay Van Loan, a rancher in Glade Park, Colorado. Both Lynne’s and Jay’s easements are held by Mesa Land Trust. Greg’s easement is held by The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation.

This Week in AgriBusiness is hosted by Orion Samuelson and Max Armstrong, two well-known agricultural broadcasters. The show features agricultural meteorologist Greg Soulje’s regional farm and ranch weather forecasts, plus frequent visits from prominent agricultural leaders and lawmakers.

Broadcast times for This Week in AgriBusiness are: every weekend at 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 7:00 p.m. on Sundays; and 8:00 a.m. on Mondays (CST). On the popular, small satellite dishes, viewers can find RFD-TV on DishNetwork channel 231; and DirecTV channel 379. Many cable systems also offer RFD-TV. Also, some 14 individual (primarily Midwest) TV stations carry the show. They include stations in Peoria, Cape Girardeau, Ft. Wayne, Sioux Falls, Sioux City, Quincy, and Rockford.

Please let us know (communications@lta.org) if you see any direct correlation between our expanded media work and landowner interest. We love to hear your success stories!
