Dear Friend,
We are always looking for better ways to get you the information you need. We recently launched a new online resource to help you learn, connect, and share with your land trust colleagues. This service, called The Learning Center, will include the 15-course core curriculum of our “university of conservation” as well as the digital database that was previously located on LTAnet (sample documents, Rally presentations, Land Trust Standards and Practices, and much more). We have designed the site so that it is easy for you to find information, and I am delighted to announce that it will be available free to all Alliance members. We will close LTAnet on March 31, so make sure to sign up for an account on The Learning Center today.
Also, we will soon debut a reformatted quarterly journal called Saving Land to replace Exchange. Keep an eye out for it in the coming months! We hope you will find these new services helpful in your conservation work.

Congress still hasn’t reached a deal on the Farm Bill, so we’re still fighting to include the permanent extension of the tax incentive for conservation easement donations. This is a critical moment, and a personal call from your Representative to Speaker Pelosi or other key leaders could mean the difference between winning or losing the easement incentive.
We also need your help with the Forest Legacy Program and the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), the most significant federal sources of funding to support land conservation. Ask your Representative to sign a new letter supporting increased funding to ensure these programs continue to succeed.

On February 29, a jury awarded $98,181 in compensatory damages and $500,000 in punitive damages to the Western New York Land Conservancy for an easement violation on a nature preserve and education center.
The jury gave the compensatory award to repair damage caused by a neighbor’s various trespasses including clear cutting for roads. The jury awarded punitive damages to compensate for the neighbor’s malicious and intentional actions toward the land conservancy - testimony in the trial confirmed that the neighbor knew he had crossed the property boundary.
